Q1 2023 in Summary

The first quarter of 2023 was a mixed bag for the global economy. There were some highs, like continued growth in the US and Europe, and some lows, like the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and other FS firms.

For MERJE, the opening months of 2023 saw us throw ourselves into the year with full might following some fantastic results the year before.

Our team, as always, is striving to exceed previous performances and we’re continuing our evolution as a business to ensure we provide the very best recruitment solutions to clients and candidates.

The Commercials

In Q1 2023, we had the pleasure of placing 194 individuals in new permanent and contract roles, three in five of which were with existing partnerships.

As well as successfully pairing candidates with new roles across 83 businesses during this time, we also kicked off new partnerships with 14 companies, and we’re looking forward to seeing them grow as the year continues.

So far this year, we have a 4:1 CV sent to placement ratio and a 2:1 first interview to placement ratio, which is a testament to the considered approach our consultants take in identifying suitable candidates for roles. It has always been our ethos to focus on quality over quantity when it comes to sending CVs to be considered, and these numbers prove that this year is no exception.

Team News

In team news, we added six new faces to the MERJE line-up:

Meanwhile, our team members had a multitude of reasons to celebrate as Beth, Gemma, and Andrew reached milestone birthdays, and Andrew also celebrated his 10-year MERJE anniversary. As the 5th person to join the business all those years ago, this makes him the 5th person to celebrate such an achievement following Andy, Paul, Neil, and Ellie last year.

We also took time to recognise Andy Hodson’s fantastic feat – running the Rome marathon to raise money for Bury Hospice. He achieved a brilliant time of 4h16 and raised over £2.5k for the hospice after they supported his mum through her final months during lockdown.

Good Business

Our commitment to CSR continued as Jo, Mike, and Beth ventured out into the fields to plant 250 trees with an army of 100 Trees Club volunteers as part of our partnership with local charity City of Trees.

This partnership has also seen us commit to planting 60 trees on the back of our Q1 testimonials thanks to our pledge to plant a tree for every review we receive throughout 2023.

Infrastructure Developments

Quarter one of this year has also seen us complete the final stages of a substantial operational improvement project with the implementation of Bullhorn as our new CRM system, as well as it’s associated integrations.

Bullhorn and its marketplace partners are at the forefront of the recruitment technology market, so while it’s been a learning curve for our team, this significant upgrade arms them with the very best tools and information to deliver exceptional and ever-improving recruitment services to our clients and candidates.

What next?

We’re recognising that the market isn’t quite as buoyant as it has been, as vacancies remain abundant and candidates quite the opposite. This is why we continue to invest in our infrastructure and our team, to ensure we can provide our clients and candidates with effective, long-lasting recruitment solutions in the face of market challenges.

From market insights to executive hires to interim recruitment to volume campaigns, we are well-positioned to help your business find continued success as 2023 progresses.

We have a strong track record, a dedicated team, and a commitment to building long-standing, effective partnerships.

With our hard work and dedication on side, any business is a big step closer to achieving its goals.
