Award-winning recruitment firm MERJE has created and filled a new Head of Business Development position after the team enjoyed its highest turnover to date in 2019, which is anticipated to be above £10 million.

Michael Brennan joins MERJE, where he will be responsible for developing relationships with existing clients across the whole of the UK, as well as building new business in the emerging markets.

The aim of this new appointment is to assist MERJE on its stratospheric financial trajectory amid strategic plans to expand the company’s national reach. The role follows eight years of consistent growth, which resulted in a turnover of £8.6 million in 2018 before growing to an expected £10 million last year.

Michael will help to develop MERJE’s considerable portfolio of corporate recruitment services and resources as well as introducing a new focus on the increasing opportunities currently being represented across MERJE’s core disciplines, which include Compliance, Risk Management, Credit Risk & AnalyticsFinance & Audit, Customer Contact and Procurement. This is so that the business may capitalise on the growing demand for high quality, modern recruitment solutions.

Michael has joined MERJE having spent the past 15 months in New York leading recruitment teams specialising in the IT and insurance sectors. Prior to this, he was a Director at Michael Page for 10 years.

Speaking about the appointment, MERJE Director Neil Johns said: “It’s great that, as a business, we can bring in someone of Michael’s stature and track record to further the growth and ambition of the business.

Having enjoyed our most successful year-to-date in 2019, we are confident that Michael will be a great addition to the continued success of MERJE, helping us to advance us along our continued pathway.”

Michael added: “I feel extremely motivated, and privileged, to be joining the team at MERJE. The financial success of the business, coupled with the ambition of the leadership team, made the decision to accept a very simple one.”

MERJE, whose HQ is in Manchester, also boasts an office in central London’s Fleet Street. MERJE relocated its HQ to a new, purpose-built 6,000 sq ft office complex in Manchester in 2018. The move has since enabled MERJE to further service its clients on a national basis and strategically deliver the best candidates, wherever they are located in the UK.
