It’s no secret that 2023 has thrown a few curveballs at the recruitment industry, but our team has been working harder than ever to step up to the plate and continue delivering quality hiring solutions to clients.

As was hinted at mid-way through the year, it seems the market is back on the up. We’re glad to see that business activity has increased and is continuing to do so as we head into the latter stages of the year.

10% of Q3’s placements were senior, executive, or c-suite roles
Commercials

In Q3 2023, we paired 122 candidates with new permanent and contract roles across 72 different businesses – a welcome increase of 10% on Q2’s figures.

This includes placements such as:

  • Head of Audit & Assurance, Property

  • Economic Crime Manager, Accountancy / Business Advisory

  • Risk & Compliance Officer, Payments

  • Business Monitoring Officer, Wealth Management

  • General Counsel, Technology

  • Senior BI Developer, Retail

  • And over 25 claims, admin, sales, business development, and customer service hires

Our Executive Talent solution has been a hit, with 10% of Q3’s placements being senior, executive, or c-suite roles. This came as no surprise when we reviewed the performance in this particular area: averaging just seven weeks to deliver on £100k+ roles, and hitting a CV sent to interview ratio of 3:2.

Across the wider business, this ratio comes in at 3:1, and our CV sent to placement ratio sits at 7:1. These strong numbers reflect our focus on quality, not quantity. We're experts in our sectors, so we only submit the best and most relevant candidates.

Team News

The last quarter didn’t see us add any new faces to the team, although the same can’t be said for Q4 – we have two additions starting in October.

Kirstie and Ellie had the pleasure of attending the Women in Credit Awards for the first time this year and, based on their glowing feedback, are sure to return for years to come.

Ellie said, “This year’s Women in Credit Awards was a brilliant evening. Kirstie and I loved taking the opportunity to celebrate the amazing women in the industry and catch up with so many of our fantastic network outside of the usual business chat. It was humbling being in a room filled with such impressive ladies, and Penny Mallory’s speech was truly inspiring!”

Sounds like another fantastic event pulled together by Credit Strategy and nicely rounds off our year of sponsoring and attending a variety of Credit Strategy events, from the Credit Summit in April to the Credit Awards in May (where we happily won the award for Recruitment Partner of the Year!), to the Women in Credit Awards in September.

In other big news, our London office got a facelift, brilliantly coordinated by London office manager Andriana. The renovation has seen the spaces transformed from the typical back-to-back desk set up to a variety of areas and zones which suit all types of working. See the video unveiling here.

We've donated 84 trees through our pledge so far in 2023

Business

We’ve continued our charitable efforts and sponsorships with a few donations to local Manchester charities and organisations, as well as supporting Jake on his 40-mile charity bike ride in July which raised £1,000 for The Focus Foundation, an organisation which aims to transform the lives of adults with learning disabilities and those on the autistic spectrum.

Our 100 Trees Club membership continues with City of Trees, and our pledge to plant a tree for every review we receive this year has racked up 84 trees donated so far (that’s an addition of 22 trees in Q3).

We’ve been shining a spotlight on our Executive Talent capabilities to make sure hiring managers know there is a reliable, efficient, and cost-effective alternative to typically expensive and time-consuming Executive Search solutions.

To this end, the Executive Talent page has had a refresh, including a handy two-page PDF to download, and we’ve introduced a senior recruitment guarantee, putting to bed any concerns hiring managers have about paying hefty upfront fees to Executive Search firms with no guarantee of delivery.

We’ve produced some killer content, like our reprised MERJE Meets series and new monthly LinkedIn newsletter A coffee break with MERJE, where we share a top tip, some market commentary, and most importantly, a MERJE pet photo, in an easily digestible 2-minute read each month.

If you’d like to easily stay up to date with all the great content we’re sharing, we’ve introduced a new subscription opportunity too – head here to sign up.

What’s Next

Well, it’s been an interesting year so far and we’re in no doubt that the final quarter will deliver more surprises.

Jonathan Abelson, MD and cofounder, said, “Much of the recruitment market is in turmoil this year, which has been turbulent to say the least. We have huge confidence in the strength, resilience, and abilities of our team and hold no doubt that we will end the year on a high.”

With the upcoming Christmas social, plenty of team meetings to discuss strategies for 2024, upcoming campaigns to highlight the capabilities of our brilliant Front-Line Talent team as well as others, and much more in the works, it’s sure to be a great end to the year.
