Head of Risk:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Risk to join a well established and respected insurance organisation, to be involved in oversight of the risk management function, formulating the European risk strategy, and establish and uphold an effective risk management and accountability framework for the firm in alignment with the expectations of the relevant regulatory authorities. A a member of the EU Risk and Compliance team this role will significantly contribute to the success of the Risk and Compliance team. 

Key Responsibilities of the Head of Risk:

  • Collaborate and cultivate strong working relationships with senior colleagues throughout the firm.

  • Formulate, secure approval for, and sustain the firm's risk strategy.

  • Develop, execute, and uphold the firm's Policy Framework. Collaborate with board members and senior managers to create a comprehensive set of Policies and minimum standards, overseeing the effective implementation of key controls within the group's divisions. Ensure that Policies and minimum standards remain current and comply with prevailing regulations and industry best practices.

  • Ensure the establishment, documentation, and maintenance of a strong and balanced risk management framework, which includes: Collaborating with board members and senior managers to identify and regularly review key risks at the firms, divisional, and local levels as needed. Working with senior managers to identify and regularly review key risks within the firm's central functions. Identifying, tracking, and managing risk events through to resolution. Defining, maintaining, and monitoring performance against risk appetite statements.

  • Establish and maintain an effective framework/system for recording key risks and controls, identifying accountable owners, and managing actions to address risks that exceed acceptable levels.

  • Identify, compile, and analyze relevant key risk indicators and management information related to the key risks to the business (conduct, operational, regulatory, strategic, and financial), ensuring appropriate actions are taken to address risks that exceed acceptable levels.

  • Provide assurance to the firm's Risk & Compliance Committee regarding the effectiveness and integration of the risk management framework, including the framework of Policies and minimum standards.

  • Ensure an appropriate process is in place for the approval and monitoring of the security of insurers, including the preparation and presentation of reports to the firm's Security Committee.

  • Provide specialist and technical risk advice and support to executive committees, senior management, and other teammates in identifying and managing risks.

 

  • Prepare reports on all risk matters primarily for the firm's Risk & Compliance Committee, but also for the Board and other committees and executive groups as required.

  • Lead and provide effective management to team members.
