​MERJE are partnered with an established Life Insurance business in their search for a Head of Finance.

You will be a key player in Finance as part of the management team delivering timely and accurate financial results, reporting and forecasting for ULPH and subsidiaries.

The role involves working with the CFO in co-ordinating activities and building an efficient and effective Finance function, working closely with the Actuarial Team, Group Finance and Group Tax.

You will be a flexible individual capable of leading strategic-related activity at a senior level and also providing expertise on particular aspects of the business.

Your new role:

• Manage Financial Accounting & Management Accounts Teams

• Conduct business planning and cost management; providing input and challenge to short and long-term forecasts for ULP

• Contribute significantly to projects and provide appropriate strategic and financial input as necessary

• Provision and development of regular and strategic Management Information

• Coordination and contribution to activity in understanding and driving the key components of value, in order to support the generation of Economic Value, Profits and a continued dividend stream. This will include:

o Analysing data and expressing results in a clear and meaningful way

o Creating and developing financial models for decision support

• Leading the work in preparing Corporation Tax computations and other relevant Life Company Taxation submissions, liaising with the Group Head of Taxation who will provide oversight and review.

• Building and maintaining constructive relationships across Utmost Group, including external auditors and third party suppliers.

• Keeping up to date with Accounting Standards, including changes to implement into the Financial Statements, where required. Development of and responsible for project management to implement any changes required, including via system development, including working across Actuarial, IT and other areas of the Group as required.

• Leading on the work required for IFRS 17 development, liaising and discussing with Actuarial colleagues.

• Maintaining a compliant culture that meets expected conduct measures including treatment of customers and regulatory requirements.

• Manage the risks arising from the activities and deliverables in accordance with Utmost’s Risk Management Framework and Risk Policies.

Our Ideal Candidate:

• ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (although candidates with significant Life Insurance Accounting experience and therefore QBE will be considered)

• Strong technical and commercial background in Life Insurance Accounting

• Experienced in preparing Corporation Tax returns for a Life Insurance Company, with suitable oversight from a senior Life Company Tax Professional

• Experienced in leading and motivating a team.

• Experienced in working cross functionally, particularly with Actuaries, to work together to ensure the Reporting process operates smoothly.
