My client is a leading retail business, fast growing and going through a period of significant change.

They are looking to recruit an individual to lead the second Line Risk oversight function.

The role holder will oversee the implementation and embedding of the Risk Management Framework and own the groups Enterprise Risk Framework, including Policy Framework. They will be responsible for ensuring the framework(s) are designed, implemented and remain within governance.

As a senior member you’ll provide thought-leadership and guidance to the wider team and demonstrate true leadership behaviours to promote a collegiate and supportive function.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead on the group wide Risk Management framework from a second line perspective.

• Maintain and manage a “business partner” relationship with first line which includes overseeing, challenging and adding value to matters relating to risk management.

• Monitor, report and challenge the effectiveness of the Control Environment across the business, ensuring business incidents and issues are raised and managed as appropriate

• Own and manage risk management systems across the business

• Design, create and present appropriate risk MI data, reports and recommendations to agreed Boards, Committees and forums

• Lead and manage a high performing team (direct and matrix), developing colleagues through stretching objectives, feedback and coaching.

• Develop and own Risk training and awareness programme content as appropriate to help develop and maintain a risk aware culture

The Person:

• Strong demonstrable experience of leading a 1st or 2nd line Risk team is essential, preferably within the Consumer Credit or Financial Services industry.

• Extensive experience of leading a team within a Risk and Control function is essential

• Experience of designing, maintaining, improving and overseeing Risk Management Frameworks

• The role requires a strong level of technical knowledge across all areas of Enterprise risk and applying this to various business functions

• The ability to demonstrate influencing skills at all levels and at pace will be key for the individual to be successful in role

• Experience of Risk Reporting to Board level and presenting Risk MI in digestible and understandable format would valuable

• Strong team working, relationship and stakeholder management skills with proven ability to influence at Executive and Non-Executive level and across teams in a matrix management organisation

• Effective written and verbal communication skills at all levels of the business, with the ability to translate complex or technical issues to suit target audience
