MERJE are partnered with a Top 3 Building Society in their search for a talented Capital Manager.

As their new Senior Manager - Capital Management, you'll take ownership of the Society's capital management processes, including internal and regulatory reporting, risk appetite, analysis, policy, controls, and the production of plans/forecasts and the Society's ICAAP. You will also be responsible for ensuring that key stakeholders, including the regulator and Board, are adequately engaged with the Society's capital position and that processes are constantly being upgraded to befit the expectations of a growing institution.

You'll be responsible for making sure we have the appropriate policies, standards, and controls in place to ensure compliance with both regulatory and internal requirements and the Society's strategic objectives. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Society incorporates best practice, keeping abreast with ongoing regulatory and internal requirements.

Most importantly, you'll be a great leader who empowers and supports your team and key stakeholders to make the right decisions for the Society. You'll be expected to influence at all levels, across your team, peers, stakeholders (up to board level), 2nd and 3rd line as well as the regulator and other external parties.

This role sits within the newly formed Balance Sheet Control function and it's a brilliant time to join the team. As a passionate people leader, you will be empowered to shape the future of the Society's Capital Management function and support the overall trajectory of Balance Sheet Control as they build a capability-led, high-control and -performance team.

 

What You'll Do

  • Lead capital risk management, with functional ownership of the Society's capital risk policy, risk appetite setting and monitoring

  • Ensure that the Society has the capital management capabilities required of a Category 1 firm, and on that basis define, develop, and deliver the priorities and plans for the capital management team

  • Be accountable for ensuring, on an ongoing basis, that the Society has the appropriate processes, controls, and capabilities to support robust capital management

  • Ensure Board, Group Risk Committee, Executive Risk Committee, ALCO, and other key stakeholders are adequately engaged in the Society's capital position. This will involve the production and ongoing development of MI

  • Coordinate the Society's annual Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP)

 

Skills Required

  • Expert knowledge of capital risk management, including risk appetite setting and ICAAP production

  • Strong understanding of capital regulation and related regulatory reporting, including Pillar 3 disclosures and Basel 3.1

  • Excellent understanding of efficient process and control embedding and management

  • Good knowledge of broader Balance Sheet Management discipline including market and liquidity risk management
