On the morning of 8th March 2018, Jonathan Abelson and Richard Abelson, Directors at MERJE, met The Worshipful the Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Councillor Dorothy Gunther, to present a cheque for £2,000 to Bury Hospice.

As proud investors in the area, they were delighted to be invited to visit the Town Hall. Richard said, “It was a great experience to be able to meet the Mayor of Bury at the Town Hall. Councillor Gunther was very hospitable and it was an honour to be able to make a donation to one of the chosen Mayor’s Charities.”

Bury Hospice, one of the Mayor’s Charities, is an organisation close to MERJE’s heart due to the excellent work they do in the area. Jonathan Abelson said, “Bury Hospice is an outstanding charity that provides vital care when most needed. We are extremely proud to be able to support both them and the Mayor’s fund-raising activities.”

As well as presenting the cheque, Jonathan and Richard were able to spend time discussing many topics with Councillor Gunther, who also gave them a tour of the newly commissioned mural within the Town Hall. The mural incorporates the Mayor’s Charities supporters’ wall, on which MERJE now have a shield. The supporters’ wall recognises organisations and individuals who have donated to the good causes selected by the Mayor, which are currently Bury Hospice, Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary and the RNLI.
