Our client is a successful SME based in Surrey and we are seeking a Senior Underwriter to produce and underwrite new and renewable business.
This is a newly created position. An interest in Cyber would be an advantage. Previous experience in D&O would be highly advantageous. You will assume immediate responsibility for team management of fellow underwriters.
Contribute to the department goal of growing a profitable portfolio of professional indemnity and D&O business via brokers and our other channels
Underwrite and price individual risk adhering to company underwriting philosophy, rules and guidelines, use of rating tools and pricing methodologies and documentation standards
Understand market pricing and market terms and conditions
Demonstrate a deep knowledge of:
Topical underwriting issues
Directly communicate/negotiate terms and conditions with clients/brokers
Develop new underwriting opportunities
Interface with capacity as required
Client Account management
Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients at the underwriting and management level
Underwrite and/or oversee and manage positive renewal retention levels
Understand treaty structures and facultative reinsurance buying patterns
Provide reinsurance solutions meeting clients’ needs whilst not compromising technical pricing or exceeding capacity guidelines
Assume responsibility for assigned client relationship, including development and implementation of marketing plans
Actively seek new business opportunities within existing relationships and within the wider insurance market
Demonstrate awareness of broader industry issues and trends
Deliver webinars to brokers and clients
Support and monitor other underwriters and help on-board new underwriters
Ensure teamwork within the company
Participating in and contribute to training and coaching initiatives
Continuously improve own skills
Accepting responsibility and accountability
Demonstrating a positive attitude and strong value system (e.g. integrity, trustworthiness, respectful)
Demonstrating a strong work ethic and a sense of urgency.
Act as deputy for the Managing Director where necessary
Assume responsibility for team management for the renewals underwriter and new business underwriter
Underwriting to strictly reflect the rules and guidelines of the team and in accordance with the financial goals of the team
Reviewing submissions including applications, policy wording and agreeing referrals within authority
Effective relationship management to initiate opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
Achieve optimum client retention through handling renewals
