MERJE are partnered with an International Insurance and Consultancy organisation in their search for a talented Senior Tax Consultant.

As an experienced tax consultant you will work as part of a team specialising in employment taxes, specifically issues affecting contractors: employment status, IR35, the Construction Industry Scheme, umbrella companies and agencies.

You will be a confident, organised and motivated person looking to join a growing team with a proven track record of success in tribunal.  The role takes in all aspects of Contractor Consulting, including defending HMRC enquiries, umbrella compliance and consultancy.

Fundamentally you will be responsible for technical advice and assistance to clients and a talented team, giving them the opportunity to grow their own skills.  It is anticipated that the role will be mainly office-based, but some travel to clients will be required.

There will be opportunities for the successful candidate to write for the tax and contractor press and to present to clients at seminars.

Your New role:

Reporting into the Associate Director, your duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

•             Provide technical advice and support to clients on employment taxes both verbally and via written correspondence.

•             To represent clients who are in dispute with HMRC with regard to IR35, Self-Employed Status, CIS, Managed Service Companies legislation, S44 ITEPA 2003 etc.

•             Managing and developing junior members of the team, including reviewing written work and assisting with the provision of structured training, tailored to the needs of the team.

•             Take part in marketing initiatives, this may involve lecturing, writing articles for publication, delivery of webinars and building/maintaining personal professional networks.

•             Be pro-active and identify opportunities to act on the interpretation of new legislation with a view to winning new work.

•             Act with honesty and integrity in all dealings with clients, contacts and team members whilst respecting confidentiality and building trust.

Our Ideal Candidate:

•             Preferably experience in a senior or semi-senior position dealing with self-employed status and IR35.

•             Sound knowledge of case law on self-employed status and comfortable utilising case law and legislation on a regular basis.

•             Ideally with a background in HMRC Enquiries and employer compliance.

•             Good understanding of HMRC processes such as Statutory Review & Alternative Dispute Resolution

•             Ability to research technical tax issues

•             Business development and marketing of tax services
