To support the ongoing operational risk controls, regulatory culture and embedding of an effective Operational Risk Management framework throughout the Group, in accordance with regulatory and legislative requirements (e.g. FCA / PRA SYSC) and guidance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the analysis and management of risk events escalation and reporting process throughout the Group
  • To ensure that appropriate trends / MI are reported to the Head of Operational Risk and appropriate management committees
  • Management of all data analytics and insight against the key operational risk indicator metrics
  • Collection of core management information for reporting purposes
  • Ensuring that effective risk management systems and technology are established and maintained throughout the Group to ensure effective and efficient operational risk management. Including the oversight of the risk management systems data and provide analysis of trends and emerging risks
  • Provide control effectiveness solutions and recommendations to the Group
  • Responsibility for the management of the Group’s process for root cause analysis of risk events and ensuring that appropriate trends / MI are reported to the Head of Operational Risk and appropriate management committees
  • To support the Head of Operational Risk in the following activities:
  • Development, implementation and oversight of the effective embedding of the Group’s Operational Risk Policy
  • Development, implementation and oversight of the effective embedding of the Group’s Risk and Control Self-Assessment process and align to regulatory / legislative requirements and guidance
  • Ensuring that an effective training and support framework in relation to operational risk management is established and maintained throughout the Group
  • Effective development, implementation and delivery of the annual operational risk assurance plan in accordance with all relevant regulatory / legislative requirements and guidance.
  • Effective management of the relationship with all third parties that provide operational risk management services / products / systems

Education and skill set:

  • Operational Risk experience in a regulated business
  • Technical knowledge of FCA/PRA/SYSC
  • Communicates persuasively - portrays a consultative style but is not afraid of making unpopular decisions
  • Able to proactively mitigate potential points of conflict
  • Rallies people across functions to deliver a commonly understood goal
  • Able to adapt as situations change
  • Is able to maintain and develop relationships with key regulators and industry experts at their level
  • Capable of representing the firm at industry working groups
  • Understands the need to work with the business to create commercially viable solutions to regulatory challenges
  • Shows the ability to translate complex regulatory rules and communicate these across the business
  • Provides organisation wide guidance and tone for effective compliance
  • Able to look at risk from many angles and accurately assesses the impact of scenarios
  • Can maintain team focus on risk management and adherence to requirements
  • Understands the importance of stress testing, scenario analysis and contingency planning
  • Responds quickly to stamp out inappropriate behaviour from a risk perspective
  • Puts in place comprehensive and effective policies, processes and controls for managing risk
