​​MERJE have partnered with a leading Real Estate business in the search for a Legal Counsel as a maternity cover, primarily to assist in the provision of quality, accurate and relevant advice on a spectrum of legal matters that apply to the business, services and product offerings

This will be a varied and fast paced role in an exciting and ever-evolving business and industry that is ideal for someone who is as happy to roll up their sleeves and get involved in managing smaller individual matters, as they are assisting in the implementation of business-wide frameworks.

A typical week as a Legal Counsel might involve

•Reviewing a range of third-party supplier contracts, escalating where necessary, and coordinating with the Deputy Data Protection Officer, Chief Information Security Officer and Procurement Manager.

•Drafting and reviewing of customer contracts and customer queries.

•Developing and updating of template contracts.

•Supervising the Junior Legal Counsel.

•Assisting the Junior Legal Counsel with all manner of legal queries from the business, including those from the Fraud, Vetting, Sales and Customer Experience Teams.

•Generally assisting the Data Protection, the Risk and Compliance and the Procurement Teams.

•Working with the Junior Legal Counsel to deliver a brand protection strategy; and carry out various intellectual property reviews.

•Working with colleagues to identify and develop non-litigious solutions to problems. We’re looking for someone who can Draft and/or review and negotiate all manner of commercial contracts (including technology/IT/marketing etc).

•Manage a range of legal matters affecting the company and its business activities, including assisting the business in ensuring the setting up and adherence to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies and procedures.

•Provide accurate, relevant and timely advice to stakeholders and other members of staff on a variety of legal topics that relate to the business and our products and services.

•Manage and mitigate legal risks by assisting with the design and implementation of company policies and procedures.

We would love someone to have any of the following

•5+ years commercial experience.

•Previous in-house experience in a lean legal team.

•Experience at a reputable private practice firm.

•A good educational background.

•Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

•Ability to juggle a high workload and prioritise effectively.

•Exceptional negotiating and drafting skills.

•A willingness to learn and take on a challenge.

•Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.

•A can-do attitude and a good work ethic.

•Team player, but also happy to work autonomously.

•Sound understanding and knowledge of commercial and corporate law.

•Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across the business.

•Ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand
