Our client is a high respected Legal firm who are to recruit a Head of Legal Practice to help them build a strong and collaborative compliance culture. In this role, you will make sure that the firm is adhering to all of the relevant regulatory requirements, so that they are able to provide clients with the professional and trustworthy service. You’ll work closely with the SRA (Solicitors’ Regulation Authority) and other regulatory bodies, you’ll be the custodian and lead on all aspects of the creation of frameworks and reports that will help demonstrate compliance and good practice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To lead the Compliance and Training of the firms Senior Management Team, working alongside Directors and Shareholders, cascading any requirements through the business and direct reports
  • To ensure that the licensed firm complies with the terms of the license (2185/5211) and all regulatory requirements
  • To ensure that all non-authorised personnel, who are employees or managers of the firm do not cause or substantially contribute to a breach of license
  • To ensure compliance with all date protection, information security and CLC regulations, reporting nay material breaches as required by law
  • To ensure compliance with ISO9001 and ISO27001 accreditations
  • To work alongside the HOFA to ensure the firm operates profitability and is compliant with all monetary handling regulations
  • To provide regular feedback to staff and taking responsibility for the overall communication within the firm ensuring regular channels of communication are maintained
  • Accountable for the overall Compliance and Training
  • To have overall responsibility of staff training, development and recruitment within the firm with support from the group Head of HR
  • To deal with any underperformance, capability and negligence issues in line with the firms disciplinary and capability procedures with support from the group Head of HR
  • To provide technical advice and guidance for all staff and provide mentoring/coaching support to the Director of Operations ensuring one to ones and appraisals are completed as required
  • To keep up-to-date on all Conveyancing law practices and changes to legislation, changing procedures where applicable
  • Continuously review all areas of the business to ensure time Is maximised and processes are as efficient as possible, implementing new processes and technology where required and ultimately creating a more proactive and effective operation
  • Ensure the highest quality of work in accordance with the company standards

The Person:

  • Fully qualified as a solicitor with experience in a HoLP role
  • Expert knowledge of SRA regulations and Data Protection and Money Laundering laws
  • Experience of dealing with regulators
  • The ability to engage with and influence colleagues at all levels
  • The ability to manage, support and develop a team of colleagues
  • Sound experience of leading change with multiple stakeholders
  • Resilience, with the confidence to challenge and push back when necessary
  • Outstanding organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise work effectively
