MERJE, in collaboration with a leading consumer credit company, seeks an experienced professional for this strategic senior role. This leadership position is pivotal in managing regulatory risk and shaping compliance strategies within the SMCR framework.

As the appointed holder of the SMF 16 role, the Head of Compliance is instrumental in guiding the compliance strategy and ensuring optimal regulatory performance. Responsibilities encompass regulatory risk management, advisory functions, second-line monitoring, and regulator management.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the compliance strategy for effective risk management
  • Function as the Local Compliance Officer, aligning global policies with local requirements
  • Chair the Compliance & Integrity Risk Committee, providing comprehensive updates
  • Serve as a compliance subject matter expert, advising on regulatory matters
  • Collaborate with business units to devise solutions for regulatory challenges
  • Supervise compliance awareness training
  • Oversee a horizon scanning program for emerging compliance risks
  • Develop and maintain a framework of compliance policies and controls
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a robust compliance monitoring plan
  • Proactively identify and report compliance and regulatory risks
  • Ensure timely resolution of issues identified through monitoring
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities, controlling communication flow for quality and timely responses

Requirements:

  • Experienced compliance professional skilled in developing and implementing effective strategies for UK consumer credit firms and banks
  • Proficient in FCA/PRA regulations, policies, and codes, with awareness of current and future priorities
  • Expertise in writing and implementing policies in financial institutions
  • Essential previous line management experience and proficiency in dealing with stakeholders at all levels, including executive board level
  • Track record of interacting with regulators, compiling submissions, and managing notifications
  • Resilient leader capable of motivating teams under pressure
  • Analytical skills to identify significant risks and challenge constructively
  • Strong communicator with the ability to simplify complex issues and influence at all levels
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Demonstrates strong stakeholder management skills, quickly establishing solid relationships
