​Financial Controller

MERJE are delighted to have been exclusively retained in the search for a Financial Controller, working with an independent not for profit private company established to increase public sector investment in energy efficiency technologies.

The business is funded by the government and works with public sector bodies throughout the UK helping them to make progress towards achieving their carbon reduction targets.

As the Financial Controller, the main responsibility is to oversee the operational running of the finance department including the day to day transactional activities and to provide technical and business support

This is a hands on role providing technical and business support to staff and work closely with Senior Finance Business partner, the Finance Director and other members of the Senior Management Team.

Key responsibilities and duties

• Lead on the month end close process.

• Review and approve Balance sheet reconciliations

• Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly management accounts under IFRS standards

• Provide technical accounting support to the finance department on various accounting matters.

• Act as a scrutiny function to ensure all transactions are recorded, filed and reported correctly.

• Ensure a process of continuous improvement and that finance systems and processes are fit for purpose

• Lead on preparation of annual statutory accounts reported under IFRS

• Lead on the year end audit process, coordinating finance staff/provision of information and ensuring that audit responses are dealt with in agreed time.

• Ensure that staff are provided with the appropriate levels of supervisions, mentoring and coaching.

• Lead on the liaison with Tax Consultants on any tax matters.

• Provide support to the Director of Finance and Resources in relation to board reports and other ad hoc reports.

• Active member of Corporate Management Team.

Being a qualified Accountant you will have strong financial accounting skills including experience of preparation of statutory accounts, group reporting for consolidation purpose and familiar with IFRS accounting standards.

Additionally, you will comfortable managing a team whilst also adopting a hands on approach.
