​Job Description: The Credit Manager will be responsible for ensuring that business written is in line with the credit risk appetite, lending policy and in accordance with their delegated authority. The job holder will ensure that conduct risks and operational risks, where identified, are eliminated or mitigated appropriately. As a member of the Credit Team, he / she will be able to structure and discuss high value transactions acting as and being recognised as a coach and mentor and acting as a “Trusted Advisor” to the sales function and the wider Credit Team.

Key responsibilities include:

• Sanctioning of new business transactions (principally within Commercial Real Estate business, but as required also for the Private Rental Sector business) in line with policy and to meet agreed service levels;

• Review and approval of In-Life annual reviews and ad hoc In-Life requests

• Assist the Head of Credit - CRE to deliver mentoring / training / guidance to wider Retail and Business Finance Division colleagues to improve their knowledge & understanding and lead to more informed lending decisions;

• Second line overview / oversight of all data integrity aspects of lending applications with a sound working knowledge of IPRE slotting usage / ability to assess and provide guidance to first line as appropriate.

• Assist in maintenance / ongoing development of IPRE slotting models and their adoption throughout the business. Act as SME maintaining central source documents / intranet site and delivering business wide training as required.

• Contribute to the ongoing development & maintenance of the lending policy

• Contribute to the development of effective credit risk controls and loss management to optimise cost : income ratio

Previous experience and qualifications:

• Individual lending mandate to a minimum level of £800k / Joint lending mandate up to £2m to have been held for a period 2 years

• Evidence of delivering continuous improvement within a credit risk environment, leading to improved quality applications and decisions demonstrated by improved accept rates and reduced arrears.

• Evidence of contributing to and developing successful teams

• In depth knowledge of property transactions, including investment and property development essential with an understanding of whole life cycle risk management

• Recent understanding and experience of trading businesses desirable, particularly Care Home and Hotel sector

• Knowledge of syndication / club deals desirable

• Strong self-starter with demonstrable team ethic and team contributor
