A rare opportunity has arisen to join one of the UK’s longest standing Independent Financial Advisers and Investment Managers at a senior and potentially, director level. My client is looking for a Compliance Director / Head of Compliance to help keep operations compliant with current and new regulations, as well as help drive the strategy of the business going forward.

I am looking to speak to senior level compliance professionals who have either held the SMF16 & SMF17 function’s previously or deputised for the Compliance Director / Head of Compliance and keen to take a step up into a SMF16 & SMF17 role. As the Compliance Director / Head of Compliance working out of the North East office, you will have overall responsibility for all compliance policies and controls across the business and will work closely with the managing director, head of financial planning, advisers and senior managers to help improve the business and drive strategy.

The role will involve:

• Provide leadership, for example by making the fair treatment of customers central to the behaviours and values of the firm.

• Hold the function of SMF16 and SMF17, Compliance Oversight and Money Laundering and be authorised by the FCA.

• Prepare, review, and update the Compliance policies & procedures, the Compliance monitoring program and the AML policies and procedures and ensure it is aligned to the requirement in the Financial Conduct Authority ('FCA') rules and regulations.

• Perform compliance reviews according to the annual Compliance Monitoring Program.

• Develop and maintain an annual calendar of compliance as per applicable rules and regulations and identify the Companies staff responsible for submission of the requirements to the regulators/ exchanges.

• To monitor and keep the Board and Management advised of current and pending relevant regulatory requirements.

• To report immediately to the Board of Directors all material and significant breaches or potential breaches of regulations.

• Advise the Board and Senior management on Compliance and AML issues.

• To ensure that Management is aware of its responsibilities and obligations in conducting business in conformity with such rules and regulations so as to maintain the firm’s reputation.

• Participate in introducing new products and services and assist management to obtain relevant licenses to offer the new products or services.

• Assist in regulatory reviews and liaise with regulators, auditors, clients concerning compliance and AML matters.

• Review and ensure there is a strong Corporate Governance framework established by the Company.

• Provide input and assessment on the firm’s investment committee.

• Review and approve trades made by the fund managers on the funds managed by the firm and the firms MPS.

• To prepare and submit relevant reports to the Board of Directors and, where requested, to the FCA including reports involving suspicious transactions.

Key Requirements:

• Ideally have held SMF16 and SMF17 responsibilities in the past, and if not have thorough understanding of the responsibilities involved. • Ideally, qualified to Chartered Level (Level 6 with the CII) or higher

• Ideally, qualified to Chartered Level (Level 6 with the CII) or higher.

• Good understanding of FCA rules, DISP, COBs, SYSC, PROD, COCON, COLL etc.
